1914
Holland Post Office built (now home of the Holland Museum).

1927
Lida Rogers, in a speech to the Holland Garden Club, proposed annual tulip plantings. She is often credited as having the original idea on which many built. A copy of her speech is the Joint Archives of Holland.

1929
The first annual tulip plantings. Stock market collapsed in the fall ushering in the depression. Dimnent Memorial Chapel (site of several previous Dutch Royal visits by the Queen) was built.
1930
The first annual Tulip Time. Initial costumes were far from authentic. Holland's largest industry, Holland Furnace Company, helped give Tulip Time national exposure by bringing in Hollywood stars. This is now among the five largest festivals in the United States including the Mardi Gras and Rose Parade.

1937
The Netherlands Museum was established. Willard C. Wichers serves as its first director.
1940s
Willard Wichers began his work with the Dutch government which included establishment of the Netherlands Information Service office (closed in 1972). Mr. Wichers became an important liaison between Holland, Michigan and the Dutch government.
